      "message": "EXPORTFS: handle NULL returns from fh_to_dentry()/fh_to_parent()\n\nWhile 440037287c5 \"[PATCH] switch all filesystems over to\nd_obtain_alias\" removed some cases where fh_to_dentry() and\nfh_to_parent() could return NULL, there are still a few NULL returns\nleft in individual filesystems.  Thus it was a mistake for that commit\nto remove the handling of NULL returns in the callers.\n\nRevert those parts of 440037287c5 which removed the NULL handling.\n\n(We could, alternatively, modify all implementations to return -ESTALE\ninstead of NULL, but that proves to require fixing a number of\nfilesystems, and in some cases it\u0027s arguably more natural to return\nNULL.)\n\nThanks to David for original patch and Linus, Christoph, and Hugh for\nreview.\n\nSigned-off-by: J.       "message": "exportfs: add fid type\n\nThis patchset is a medium scale rewrite of the export operations interface.\nThe goal is to make the interface less complex, and easier to understand from\nthe filesystem side, aswell as preparing generic support for exporting of\n64bit inode numbers.\n\nThis touches all nfs exporting filesystems, and I\u0027ve done testing on all of\nthe filesystems I have here locally (xfs, ext2, ext3, reiserfs, jfs)\n\nThis patch:\n\nAdd a structured fid type so that we don\u0027t have to pass an array of u32 values\naround everywhere.       "message": "knfsd: exportfs: remove iget abuse\n\nWhen the exportfs interface was added the expectation was that filesystems\nprovide an operation to convert from a file handle to an inode/dentry, but it\nkept a backwards compat option that still calls into iget.\n\nCalling into iget from non-filesystem code is very bad, because it gives too\nlittle information to filesystem, and simply crashes if the filesystem doesn\u0027t\nimplement the -\u003eread_inode routine.\n\nFortunately there are only two filesystems left using this fallback: efs and\njfs.       "message": "[PATCH] VFS: Make filldir_t and struct kstat deal in 64-bit inode numbers\n\nThese patches make the kernel pass 64-bit inode numbers internally when\ncommunicating to userspace, even on a 32-bit system.  They are required\nbecause some filesystems have intrinsic 64-bit inode numbers: NFS3+ and XFS\nfor example.  The 64-bit inode numbers are then propagated to userspace\nautomatically where the arch supports it.\n\nProblems have been seen with userspace (eg: ld.so) using the 64-bit inode\nnumber returned by stat64() or getdents64() to differentiate files, and\nfailing because the 64-bit inode number space was compressed to 32-bits, and\nso overlaps occur.\n\nThis patch:\n\nMake filldir_t take a 64-bit inode number and struct kstat carry a 64-bit\ninode number so that 64-bit inode numbers can be passed back to userspace.\n\nThe stat functions then returns the full 64-bit inode number where\navailable and where possible.       "message": "[PATCH] NFS server subtree_check returns dubious value\n\nAddress a problem found when a Linux NFS server uses the \"subtree_check\"\nexport option.\n\nThe \"subtree_check\" NFS export option was designed to prohibit a client\nfrom using a file handle for which it should not have permission.  The\nalgorithm used is to ensure that the entire path to the file being\nreferenced is accessible to the user attempting to use the file handle.  If\nsome part of the path is not accessible, then the operation is aborted and\nthe appropriate version of ESTALE is returned to the NFS client.\n\nThe error, ESTALE, is unfortunate in that it causes NFS clients to make\ncertain assumptions about the continued existence of the file.  They assume\nthat the file no longer exists and refuse to attempt to access it again.\nIn this case, the file really does exist, but access was denied by the\nserver for a particular user.\n\nA better error to return would be an EACCES sort of error.
