When the hardreset was\nthere, the reset action was never skipped and the port was always\nthawed but, with the hardreset gone, -\u003eprereset() determines that\nthere\u0027s no need for softreset and both -\u003esoftreset() and -\u003ethaw() are\nskipped. Now\nmv_set_main_irq_mask(..) only writes the controller\u0027s register if the\nnew value differs from the \"shadowed\" value. This is fatal when trying\nto disable all interrupts in mv_init_host(..), i.e. the following\nfunction call does not write anything to the main irq mask register:\n\n mv_set_main_irq_mask(host, ~0, 0);\n\nThe effect I see on my machine (QNAP TS-109 II) with booting via kexec\n(with Linux as a 2nd-stage boot loader) is that if the sata_mv module\nwas still loaded when performing kexec, then the new kernel\u0027s sata_mv\nmodule starts up with interrupts enabled. This results in an unhandled\nIRQ and breaks the boot process.\n\nThe unhandled interrupt itself might also be fixed by Lennert\u0027s patch\nproposed at http://markmail.org/message/kwvzxstnlsa3s26w which I did not\ntry yet.\n\nHowever I still propose to additionally initialize the shadow variable\nwith the current contents of the main irq mask register to get both in\nsync and allow proper disabling the main irq mask.
