      "message": "ia64: convert to dynamic percpu allocator\n\nUnlike other archs, ia64 reserves space for percpu areas during early\nmemory initialization.  These areas occupy a contiguous region indexed\nby cpu number on contiguous memory model or are grouped by node on\ndiscontiguous memory model.\n\nAs allocation and initialization are done by the arch code, all that\nsetup_per_cpu_areas() needs to do is communicating the determined\nlayout to the percpu allocator.  This patch implements\nsetup_per_cpu_areas() for both contig and discontig memory models and\ndrops HAVE_LEGACY_PER_CPU_AREA.\n\nPlease note that for contig model, the allocation itself is modified\nonly to allocate for possible cpus instead of NR_CPUS.       "message": "ia64: allocate percpu area for cpu0 like percpu areas for other cpus\n\ncpu0 used special percpu area reserved by the linker, __cpu0_per_cpu,\nwhich is set up early in boot by head.S.  However, this doesn\u0027t\nguarantee that the area will be on the same node as cpu0 and the\npercpu area for cpu0 ends up very far away from percpu areas for other\ncpus which cause problems for congruent percpu allocator.\n\nThis patch makes percpu area initialization allocate percpu area for\ncpu0 like any other cpus and copy it from __cpu0_per_cpu which now\nresides in the __init area.       "message": "ia64: don\u0027t alias VMALLOC_END to vmalloc_end\n\nIf CONFIG_VIRTUAL_MEM_MAP is enabled, ia64 defines macro VMALLOC_END\nas unsigned long variable vmalloc_end which is adjusted to prepare\nroom for vmemmap.  This becomes probnlematic if a local variables\nvmalloc_end is defined in some function (not very unlikely) and\nVMALLOC_END is used in the function - the function thinks its\nreferencing the global VMALLOC_END value but would be referencing its\nown local vmalloc_end variable.\n\nThere\u0027s no reason VMALLOC_END should be a macro. These could cause\nfuture problems if other modules get loaded into that memory and cause\nan exception as we\u0027d see the wrong fixup.  The only case I know of is\nkvm-intel.ko (when CONFIG_CC_OPTIMIZE_FOR_SIZE\u003dn).\n\nAmerigo fixed this long-standing FIXME in the x86 version, but this\npatch is more general.\n\nThis implements trim_init_extable(); most archs are simple since they\nuse the standard lib/extable.c sort code.       "message": "[IA64] fix the difference between node_mem_map and node_start_pfn\n\nmakedumpfile[1] cannot run on ia64 discontigmem kernel, because the member\nnode_mem_map of struct pgdat_list has invalid value.  This patch fixes it.\n\nnode_start_pfn shows the start pfn of each node, and node_mem_map should\npoint \u0027struct page\u0027 of each node\u0027s node_start_pfn.  On my machine, node0\u0027s\nnode_start_pfn shows 0x400 and its node_mem_map points 0xa0007fffbf000000.\n This address is the same as vmem_map, so the node_mem_map points \u0027struct\npage\u0027 of pfn 0, even if its node_start_pfn shows 0x400.\n\nThe cause is due to the round down of min_pfn in count_node_pages() and\nnode0\u0027s node_mem_map points \u0027struct page\u0027 of inactive pfn (0x0).       "message": "[IA64] Ensure cpu0 can access per-cpu variables in early boot code\n\nia64 handles per-cpu variables a litle differently from other architectures\nin that it maps the physical memory allocated for each cpu at a constant\nvirtual address (0xffffffffffff0000). This mapping is not enabled until\nthe architecture specific cpu_init() function is run, which causes problems\nsince some generic code is run before this point. In particular when\nCONFIG_PRINTK_TIME is enabled, the boot cpu will trap on the access to\nper-cpu memory at the first printk() call so the boot will fail without\nthe kernel printing anything to the console.\n\nFix this by allocating percpu memory for cpu0 in the kernel data section\nand doing all initialization to enable percpu access in head.S before\ncalling any generic code.\n\nOther cpus must take care not to access per-cpu variables too early, but\ntheir code path from start_secondary() to cpu_init() is all in arch/ia64\n\nSigned-off-by: Tony Luck \u003ctony.luck@intel.com\u003e\n"

      "message": "GRU Driver: hardware data structures\n\nThis series of patches adds a driver for the SGI UV GRU.  The driver is\nstill in development but it currently compiles for both x86_64 \u0026 IA64.\nAll simple regression tests pass on IA64.  Although features remain to be\nadded, I\u0027d like to start the process of getting the driver into the\nkernel.  Additional kernel drivers will depend on services provide by the\nGRU driver.\n\nThe GRU is a hardware resource located in the system chipset.  The GRU\ncontains memory that is mmaped into the user address space.  This memory\nis used to communicate with the GRU to perform functions such as\nload/store, scatter/gather, bcopy, AMOs, etc.  The GRU is directly\naccessed by user instructions using user virtual addresses.  GRU\ninstructions (ex., bcopy) use user virtual addresses for operands.\n\nThe GRU contains a large TLB that is functionally very similar to\nprocessor TLBs.  Because the external contains a TLB with user virtual\naddress, it requires callouts from the core VM system when certain types\nof changes are made to the process page tables.  There are several MMUOPS\npatches currently being discussed but none has been accepted into the\nkernel. Then it tried\nto load the kernel module however it failed always and it used the default\nexecution domain PER_LINUX instead. Requesting kernel modules is very\nexpensive. It caused the performance issue.       "message": "Add vmcoreinfo\n\nThis patch set frees the restriction that makedumpfile users should install a\nvmlinux file (including the debugging information) into each system.\n\nmakedumpfile command is the dump filtering feature for kdump.  It creates a\nsmall dumpfile by filtering unnecessary pages for the analysis.  To\ndistinguish unnecessary pages, it needs a vmlinux file including the debugging\ninformation.  These days, the debugging package becomes a huge file, and it is\nhard to install it into each system.\n\nTo solve the problem, kdump developers discussed it at lkml and kexec-ml.       "message": "Do not depend on MAX_ORDER when grouping pages by mobility\n\nCurrently mobility grouping works at the MAX_ORDER_NR_PAGES level.  This makes\nsense for the majority of users where this is also the huge page size.\nHowever, on platforms like ia64 where the huge page size is runtime\nconfigurable it is desirable to group at a lower order.  On x86_64 and\noccasionally on x86, the hugepage size may not always be MAX_ORDER_NR_PAGES.\n\nThis patch groups pages together based on the value of HUGETLB_PAGE_ORDER.  It\nuses a compile-time constant if possible and a variable where the huge page\nsize is runtime configurable.\n\nIt is assumed that grouping should be done at the lowest sensible order and\nthat the user would not want to override this.  If this is not true,\npage_block order could be forced to a variable initialised via a boot-time\nkernel parameter.\n\nOne potential issue with this patch is that IA64 now parses hugepagesz with\nearly_param() instead of __setup().  __setup() is called after the memory\nallocator has been initialised and the pageblock bitmaps already setup.       "message": "hugepage: fix broken check for offset alignment in hugepage mappings\n\nFor hugepage mappings, the file offset, like the address and size, needs to\nbe aligned to the size of a hugepage.\n\nIn commit 68589bc353037f233fe510ad9ff432338c95db66, the check for this was\nmoved into prepare_hugepage_range() along with the address and size checks.\n But since BenH\u0027s rework of the get_unmapped_area() paths leading up to\ncommit 4b1d89290b62bb2db476c94c82cf7442aab440c8, prepare_hugepage_range()\nis only called for MAP_FIXED mappings, not for other mappings.  This means\nwe\u0027re no longer ever checking for an aligned offset - I\u0027ve confirmed that\nmmap() will (apparently) succeed with a misaligned offset on both powerpc\nand i386 at least.\n\nThis patch restores the check, removing it from prepare_hugepage_range()\nand putting it back into hugetlbfs_file_mmap().       "message": "Make page-\u003eprivate usable in compound pages\n\nIf we add a new flag so that we can distinguish between the first page and the\ntail pages then we can avoid to use page-\u003eprivate in the first page.\npage-\u003eprivate \u003d\u003d page for the first page, so there is no real information in\nthere.\n\nFreeing up page-\u003eprivate makes the use of compound pages more transparent.\nThey become more usable like real pages.  Right now we have to be careful f.e.\n if we are going beyond PAGE_SIZE allocations in the slab on i386 because we\ncan then no longer use the private field.  This is one of the issues that\ncause us not to support debugging for page size slabs in SLAB.\n\nHaving page-\u003eprivate available for SLUB would allow more meta information in\nthe page struct.  I can probably avoid the 16 bit ints that I have in there\nright now.\n\nAlso if page-\u003eprivate is available then a compound page may be equipped with\nbuffer heads.  This may free up the way for filesystems to support larger\nblocks than page size.\n\nWe add PageTail as an alias of PageReclaim.  Compound pages cannot currently\nbe reclaimed.       "message": "[IA64] min_low_pfn and max_low_pfn calculation fix\n\nWe have seen bad_pte_print when testing crashdump on an SN machine in\nrecent 2.6.20 kernel.  There are tons of bad pte print (pfn \u003c max_low_pfn)\nreports when the crash kernel boots up, all those reported bad pages\nare inside initmem range; That is because if the crash kernel code and\ndata happens to be at the beginning of the 1st node. build_node_maps in\ndiscontig.c will bypass reserved regions with filter_rsvd_memory. Since\nmin_low_pfn is calculated in build_node_map, so in this case, min_low_pfn\nwill be greater than kernel code and data.\n\nBecause pages inside initmem are freed and reused later, we saw\npfn_valid check fail on those pages.\n\nI think this theoretically happen on a normal kernel. When I check\nmin_low_pfn and max_low_pfn calculation in contig.c and discontig.c.\nI found more issues than this.\n\n1. min_low_pfn and max_low_pfn calculation is inconsistent between\ncontig.c and discontig.c,\nmin_low_pfn is calculated as the first page number of boot memmap in\ncontig.c (Why? Though this may work at the most of the time, I don\u0027t\nthink it is the right logic). It is calculated as the lowest physical\nmemory page number bypass reserved regions in discontig.c.\nmax_low_pfn is calculated include reserved regions in contig.c. It is\ncalculated exclude reserved regions in discontig.c.\n\n2. If kernel code and data region is happen to be at the begin or the\nend of physical memory, when min_low_pfn and max_low_pfn calculation is\nbypassed kernel code and data, pages in initmem will report bad.\n\n3. initrd is also in reserved regions, if it is at the begin or at the\nend of physical memory, kernel will refuse to reuse the memory.
