      "message": "[NET]: Make the device list and device lookups per namespace.\n\nThis patch makes most of the generic device layer network\nnamespace safe.  This patch makes dev_base_head a\nnetwork namespace variable, and then it picks up\na few associated variables.  The functions:\ndev_getbyhwaddr\ndev_getfirsthwbytype\ndev_get_by_flags\ndev_get_by_name\n__dev_get_by_name\ndev_get_by_index\n__dev_get_by_index\ndev_ioctl\ndev_ethtool\ndev_load\nwireless_process_ioctl\n\nwere modified to take a network namespace argument, and\ndeal with it.\n\nvlan_ioctl_set and brioctl_set were modified so their\nhooks will receive a network namespace argument.\n\nSo basically anthing in the core of the network stack that was\naffected to by the change of dev_base was modified to handle\nmultiple network namespaces.  The rest of the network stack was\nsimply modified to explicitly use \u0026init_net the initial network\nnamespace.  This can be fixed when those components of the network\nstack are modified to handle multiple network namespaces.\n\nFor now the ifindex generator is left global.\n\nFundametally ifindex numbers are per namespace, or else\nwe will have corner case problems with migration when\nwe get that far.\n\nAt the same time there are assumptions in the network stack\nthat the ifindex of a network device won\u0027t change. Using a single variable\nallows some cleanups and makes the skb_checksum() function smaller,\nmore readable, and presumably marginally faster.\n\nWe appear to have many other \"sk_buff walker\" functions built on the\nexact same model, so the cleanup applies to them, too.       "message": "[APPLETALK]: Fix a remotely triggerable crash\n\nWhen we receive an AppleTalk frame shorter than what its header says,\nwe still attempt to verify its checksum, and trip on the BUG_ON() at\nthe end of function atalk_sum_skb() because of the length mismatch.\n\nThis has security implications because this can be triggered by simply\nsending a specially crafted ethernet frame to a target victim,\neffectively crashing that host. Thus this qualifies, I think, as a\nremote DoS. I\n  suspect this isn\u0027t so frequent.\n* AppleTalk frames are non-IP, thus I guess they can only travel on\n  local networks. I am no network expert though, maybe it is possible\n  to somehow encapsulate AppleTalk packets over IP.\n\nThe bug has been reported back in June 2004:\n  http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id\u003d2979\nBut it wasn\u0027t investigated, and was closed in July 2006 as both\nreporters had vanished meanwhile.\n\nThis code was new in kernel 2.6.0-test5:\n  http://git.kernel.org/?p\u003dlinux/kernel/git/tglx/history.git;a\u003dcommitdiff;h\u003d7ab442d7e0a76402c12553ee256f756097cae2d2\nAnd not modified since then, so we can assume that vanilla kernels\n2.6.0-test5 and later, and distribution kernels based thereon, are\naffected.\n\nNote that I still do not know for sure what triggered the bug in the\nreal-world cases. The frame could have been corrupted by the kernel if\nwe have a bug hiding somewhere.       "message": "[APPLETALK]: Fix broadcast bug.\n\nFrom: Oliver Dawid \u003coliver@helios.de\u003e\n\nwe found a bug in net/appletalk/ddp.c concerning broadcast packets. In \nkernel 2.4 it was working fine. The bug first occured 4 years ago when \nswitching to new SNAP layer handling. This bug can be splitted up into a \nsending(1) and reception(2) problem:\n\nSending(1)\nIn kernel 2.4 broadcast packets were sent to a matching ethernet device \nand atalk_rcv() was called to receive it as \"loopback\" (so loopback \npackets were shortcutted and handled in DDP layer).\n\nWhen switching to the new SNAP structure, this shortcut was removed and \nthe loopback packet was send to SNAP layer. The author forgot to replace \nthe remote device pointer by the loopback device pointer before sending \nthe packet to SNAP layer (by calling ddp_dl-\u003erequest() ) therfor the \npacket was not sent back by underlying layers to ddp\u0027s atalk_rcv().\n\nReception(2)\nIn atalk_rcv() a packet received by this loopback mechanism contains now \nthe (rigth) loopback device pointer (in Kernel 2.4 it was the (wrong) \nremote ethernet device pointer) and therefor no matching socket will be \nfound to deliver this packet to. Because a broadcast packet should be \nsend to the first matching socket (as it is done in many other protocols \n(?)), we removed the network comparison in broadcast case.\n\nBelow you will find a patch to correct this bug.
