It wouldn\u0027t\n cause corruption, but could cause decreased performance due to allocating\n a larger chunk of the journal (~ 27 blocks) than it would actually use.\n\n This patch loads the xattr root dentry at xattr initialization and creates\n it on-demand.       "message": "mm: close page_mkwrite races\n\nChange page_mkwrite to allow implementations to return with the page\nlocked, and also change it\u0027s callers (in page fault paths) to hold the\nlock until the page is marked dirty.  This allows the filesystem to have\nfull control of page dirtying events coming from the VM.\n\nRather than simply hold the page locked over the page_mkwrite call, we\ncall page_mkwrite with the page unlocked and allow callers to return with\nit locked, so filesystems can avoid LOR conditions with page lock.\n\nThe problem with the current scheme is this: a filesystem that wants to\nassociate some metadata with a page as long as the page is dirty, will\nperform this manipulation in its -\u003epage_mkwrite.  It currently then must\nreturn with the page unlocked and may not hold any other locks (according\nto existing page_mkwrite convention).\n\nIn this window, the VM could write out the page, clearing page-dirty.  The\nfilesystem has no good way to detect that a dirty pte is about to be\nattached, so it will happily write out the page, at which point, the\nfilesystem may manipulate the metadata to reflect that the page is no\nlonger dirty.\n\nIt is not always possible to perform the required metadata manipulation in\n-\u003eset_page_dirty, because that function cannot block or fail.  The\nfilesystem may need to allocate some data structure, for example.\n\nAnd the VM cannot mark the pte dirty before page_mkwrite, because\npage_mkwrite is allowed to fail, so we must not allow any window where the\npage could be written to if page_mkwrite does fail.\n\nThis solution of holding the page locked over the 3 critical operations\n(page_mkwrite, setting the pte dirty, and finally setting the page dirty)\ncloses out races nicely, preventing page cleaning for writeout being\ninitiated in that window.  This provides the filesystem with a strong\nsynchronisation against the VM here.\n\n- Sage needs this race closed for ceph filesystem.\n- Trond for NFS (http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id\u003d12913).\n- I need it for fsblock.\n- I suspect other filesystems may need it too (eg. btrfs).\n- I have converted buffer.c to the new locking. Even simple block allocation\n  under dirty pages might be susceptible to i_size changing under partial page\n  at the end of file (we also have a buffer.c-side problem here, but it cannot\n  be fixed properly without this patch).\n- Other filesystems (eg.       "message": "[CIFS] Remove older session setup implementation\n\nTwo years ago, when the session setup code in cifs was rewritten and moved\nto fs/cifs/sess.c, we were asked to keep the old code for a release or so\n(which could be reenabled at runtime) since it was such a large change and\nbecause the asn (SPNEGO) and NTLMSSP code was not rewritten and needed to\nbe. This was useful to avoid regressions, but is long overdue to be removed.\nNow that the Kerberos (asn/spnego) code is working in fs/cifs/sess.c,\nand the NTLMSSP code moved (NTLMSSP blob setup be rewritten with the\nnext patch in this series) quite a bit of dead code from fs/cifs/connect.c\nnow can be removed.\n\nThis old code should have been removed last year, but the earlier krb5\npatches did not move/remove the NTLMSSP code which we had asked to\nbe done first.       "message": "Btrfs: fix acl caching\n\nLinus noticed the btrfs code to cache acls wasn\u0027t properly caching\na NULL acl when the inode didn\u0027t have any acls.  This meant the common\ncase of no acls resulted in expensive btree searches every time the\nkernel checked permissions (which is quite often).\n\nThis is a modified version of Linus\u0027 original patch:\n\nProperly set initial acl fields to BTRFS_ACL_NOT_CACHED in the inode.\nThis forces an acl lookup when permission checks are done.\n\nFix btrfs_get_acl to avoid lookups and locking when the inode acls fields\nare set to null.\n\nFix btrfs_get_acl to use the right return value from __btrfs_getxattr\nwhen deciding to cache a NULL acl.       "message": "ext4: Do not try to validate extents on special files\n\nThe EXTENTS_FL flag should never be set on special files, but if it\nis, don\u0027t bother trying to validate that the extents tree is valid,\nsince only files, directories, and non-fast symlinks will ever have an\nextent data structure.       "message": "Btrfs: fix deadlocks and stalls on dead root removal\n\nAfter a transaction commit, the old root of the subvol btrees are sent through\nsnapshot removal.  This is what actually frees up any blocks replaced by\nCOW, and anything the old blocks pointed to.\n\nSnapshot deletion will pause when a transaction commit has started, which\nhelps to avoid a huge amount of delayed reference count updates piling up\nas the transaction is trying to close.\n\nBut, this pause happens after the snapshot deletion process has asked other\nprocs on the system to throttle back a bit so that it can make progress.\n\nWe don\u0027t want to throttle everyone while we\u0027re waiting for the transaction\ncommit, it leads to deadlocks in the user transaction ioctls used by Ceph\nand makes things slower in general.\n\nThis patch changes things to avoid the throttling while we sleep.\n\nSigned-off-by: Chris Mason \u003cchris.mason@oracle.com\u003e\n"

By default for every 8 data block groups, we\u0027ll allocate 1\nmetadata chunk, or about 12% of the disk will be allocated for metadata.  This\ncan be changed by specifying the metadata_ratio mount option.\n\nThis is simply the number of data block groups that have to be allocated to\nforce a metadata chunk allocation. Use rcu_read_lock()\ninstead of -\u003esiglock to iterate over the sub-threads.       "message": "do_execve() must not clear fs-\u003ein_exec if it was set by another thread\n\nIf do_execve() fails after check_unsafe_exec(), it clears fs-\u003ein_exec\nunconditionally. This is wrong if we race with our sub-thread which\nalso does do_execve:\n\n\tTwo threads T1 and T2 and another process P, all share the same\n\t-\u003efs.\n\n\tT1 starts do_execve(BAD_FILE).
