There were packets in the arp queue that failed to be sent\nand we attempted to generate an ICMP host unreachable message, but\nfailed because icmp_sk_exit had already been called.\n\nThe network devices are removed from a network namespace and their\narp queues are flushed before we do attempt to shutdown subsystems\nso this error should have been impossible.\n\nIt turns out icmp_init is using register_pernet_device instead\nof register_pernet_subsys. Which resulted in icmp being shut down\nwhile we still had the possibility of packets in flight, making\na nasty NULL pointer deference in interrupt context possible.\n\nChanging this to register_pernet_subsys fixes the problem in\nmy testing.\n\nSigned-off-by: Eric W. "message": "netns: fix addrconf_ifdown kernel panic\n\nWhen a network namespace is destroyed the network interfaces are\nall unregistered, making addrconf_ifdown called by the netdevice\nnotifier. \nIn the other hand, the addrconf exit method does a loop on the network\ndevices and does addrconf_ifdown on each of them. But the ordering of \nthe netns subsystem is not right because it uses the register_pernet_device\ninstead of register_pernet_subsys. If we handle the loopback as\nany network device, we can safely use register_pernet_subsys.\n\nBut if we use register_pernet_subsys, the addrconf exit method will do\nexactly what was already done with the unregistering of the network\ndevices. So in definitive, this code is pointless.\n\nI removed the netns addrconf exit method and moved the code to the\naddrconf cleanup function.\n\nSigned-off-by: Daniel Lezcano \u003cdlezcano@fr.ibm.com\u003e\nSigned-off-by: David S. "message": "dccp: Do not let initial option overhead shrink the MPS\n\nThis fixes a problem caused by the overlap of the connection-setup and\nestablished-state phases of DCCP connections.\n\nDuring connection setup, the client retransmits Confirm Feature-Negotiation\noptions until a response from the server signals that it can move from the\nhalf-established PARTOPEN into the OPEN state, whereupon the connection is\nfully established on both ends (RFC 4340, 8.1.5).\n\nHowever, since the client may already send data while it is in the PARTOPEN\nstate, consequences arise for the Maximum Packet Size: the problem is that the\ninitial option overhead is much higher than for the subsequent established\nphase, as it involves potentially many variable-length list-type options\n(server-priority options, RFC 4340, 6.4).\n\nApplying the standard MPS is insufficient here: especially with larger\npayloads this can lead to annoying, counter-intuitive EMSGSIZE errors.\n\nOn the other hand, reducing the MPS available for the established phase by\nthe added initial overhead is highly wasteful and inefficient.\n\nThe solution chosen therefore is a two-phase strategy:\n\n If the payload length of the DataAck in PARTOPEN is too large, an Ack is sent\n to carry the options, and the feature-negotiation list is then flushed.\n\n This means that the server gets two Acks for one Response. If both Acks get\n lost, it is probably better to restart the connection anyway and devising yet\n another special-case does not seem worth the extra complexity.\n\nThe result is a higher utilisation of the available packet space for the data\ntransmission phase (established state) of a connection.\n\nThe patch (over-)estimates the initial overhead to be 32*4 bytes -- commonly\nseen values were around 90 bytes for initial feature-negotiation options.\n\nIt uses sizeof(u32) to mean \"aligned units of 4 bytes\".\nFor consistency, another use of 4-byte alignment is adapted.\n\nSigned-off-by: Gerrit Renker \u003cgerrit@erg.abdn.ac.uk\u003e\nSigned-off-by: David S. "message": "dccp: Minimise header option overhead in setting the MPS\n\nThis patch resolves a long-standing FIXME to dynamically update the Maximum\nPacket Size depending on actual options usage.\n\nIt uses the flags set by the feature-negotiation infrastructure to compute\nthe required header option size.\n\nMost options are fixed-size, a notable exception are Ack Vectors (required\ncurrently only by CCID-2). "message": "mac80211: fix aggregation for hardware with ampdu queues\n\nHardware with AMPDU queues currently has broken aggregation.\n\nThis patch fixes it by making all A-MPDUs go over the regular AC queues,\nbut keeping track of the hardware queues in mac80211. As a first rough\nversion, it actually stops the AC queue for extended periods of time,\nwhich can be removed by adding buffering internal to mac80211, but is\ncurrently not a huge problem because people rarely use multiple TIDs\nthat are in the same AC (and iwlwifi currently doesn\u0027t operate as AP).\n\nThis is a short-term fix, my current medium-term plan, which I hope to\nexecute soon as well, but am not sure can finish before .30, looks like\nthis:\n 1) rework the internal queuing layer in mac80211 that we use for\n fragments if the driver stopped queue in the middle of a fragmented\n frame to be able to queue more frames at once (rather than just a\n single frame with its fragments)\n 2) instead of stopping the entire AC queue, queue up the frames in a\n per-station/per-TID queue during aggregation session initiation,\n when the session has come up take all those frames and put them\n onto the queue from 1)\n 3) push the ampdu queue layer abstraction this patch introduces in\n mac80211 into the driver, and remove the virtual queue stuff from\n mac80211 again\n\nThis plan will probably also affect ath9k in that mac80211 queues the\nframes instead of passing them down, even when there are no ampdu queues.\n\nSigned-off-by: Johannes Berg \u003cjohannes@sipsolutions.net\u003e\nSigned-off-by: John W.
