      "message": "cgroup: cgroup_attach_task() could return -errno after success\n\n61d1d219c4 \"cgroup: remove extra calls to find_existing_css_set\" made\ncgroup_task_migrate() return void.  An unfortunate side effect was\nthat cgroup_attach_task() was depending on that function\u0027s return\nvalue to clear its @retval on the success path.  On cgroup mounts\nwithout any subsystem with -\u003ecan_attach() callback,\ncgroup_attach_task() ended up returning @retval without initializing\nit on success.\n\nFor some reason, gcc failed to warn about it and it didn\u0027t cause\ncgroup_attach_task() to return non-zero value in many cases, probably\ndue to difference in register allocation.       "message": "Revert \"ext4: don\u0027t release page refs in ext4_end_bio()\"\n\nThis reverts commit b43d17f319f2c502b17139d1cf70731b2b62c644.\n\nDave Jones reports that it causes lockups on his laptop, and his debug\noutput showed a lot of processes hung waiting for page_writeback (or\nmore commonly - processes hung waiting for a lock that was held during\nthat writeback wait).\n\nThe page_writeback hint made Ted suggest that Dave look at this commit,\nand Dave verified that reverting it makes his problems go away.\n\nTed says:\n \"That commit fixes a race which is seen when you write into fallocated\n  (and hence uninitialized) disk blocks under *very* heavy memory\n  pressure.       "message": "radix-tree: use iterators in find_get_pages* functions\n\nReplace radix_tree_gang_lookup_slot() and\nradix_tree_gang_lookup_tag_slot() in page-cache lookup functions with\nbrand-new radix-tree direct iterating.  This avoids the double-scanning\nand pointer copying.\n\nIterator don\u0027t stop after nr_pages page-get fails in a row, it continue\nlookup till the radix-tree end.       "message": "pidns: add reboot_pid_ns() to handle the reboot syscall\n\nIn the case of a child pid namespace, rebooting the system does not really\nmakes sense.  When the pid namespace is used in conjunction with the other\nnamespaces in order to create a linux container, the reboot syscall leads\nto some problems.\n\nA container can reboot the host.  That can be fixed by dropping the\nsys_reboot capability but we are unable to correctly to poweroff/\nhalt/reboot a container and the container stays stuck at the shutdown time\nwith the container\u0027s init process waiting indefinitively.\n\nAfter several attempts, no solution from userspace was found to reliabily\nhandle the shutdown from a container.\n\nThis patch propose to make the init process of the child pid namespace to\nexit with a signal status set to : SIGINT if the child pid namespace\ncalled \"halt/poweroff\" and SIGHUP if the child pid namespace called\n\"reboot\".  When the reboot syscall is called and we are not in the initial\npid namespace, we kill the pid namespace for \"HALT\", \"POWEROFF\",\n\"RESTART\", and \"RESTART2\". So every cache being\ndestroyed dynamically ends up sending an IPI to each CPU in the system,\nregardless if the cache has ever been used there.\n\nFor example, if you close the Infinband ipath driver char device file, the\nclose file ops calls kmem_cache_destroy().  So running some infiniband\nconfig tool on one a single CPU dedicated to system tasks might interrupt\nthe rest of the 127 CPUs dedicated to some CPU intensive or latency\nsensitive task.\n\nI suspect there is a good chance that every line in the output of \"git\ngrep kmem_cache_destroy linux/ | grep \u0027\\-\u003e\u0027\" has a similar scenario.\n\nThis patch attempts to rectify this issue by sending an IPI to flush the\nper cpu objects back to the free lists only to CPUs that seem to have such\nobjects.\n\nThe check which CPU to IPI is racy but we don\u0027t care since asking a CPU\nwithout per cpu objects to flush does no damage and as far as I can tell\nthe flush_all by itself is racy against allocs on remote CPUs anyway, so\nif you required the flush_all to be determinstic, you had to arrange for\nlocking regardless.\n\nWithout this patch the following artificial test case:\n\n$ cd /sys/kernel/slab\n$ for DIR in *; do cat $DIR/alloc_calls \u003e /dev/null; done\n\nproduces 166 IPIs on an cpuset isolated CPU.       "message": "smp: introduce a generic on_each_cpu_mask() function\n\nWe have lots of infrastructure in place to partition multi-core systems\nsuch that we have a group of CPUs that are dedicated to specific task:\ncgroups, scheduler and interrupt affinity, and cpuisol\u003d boot parameter.\nStill, kernel code will at times interrupt all CPUs in the system via IPIs\nfor various needs.  These IPIs are useful and cannot be avoided\naltogether, but in certain cases it is possible to interrupt only specific\nCPUs that have useful work to do and not the entire system.\n\nThis patch set, inspired by discussions with Peter Zijlstra and Frederic\nWeisbecker when testing the nohz task patch set, is a first stab at trying\nto explore doing this by locating the places where such global IPI calls\nare being made and turning the global IPI into an IPI for a specific group\nof CPUs.  The purpose of the patch set is to get feedback if this is the\nright way to go for dealing with this issue and indeed, if the issue is\neven worth dealing with at all.  Based on the feedback from this patch set\nI plan to offer further patches that address similar issue in other code\npaths.\n\nThis patch creates an on_each_cpu_mask() and on_each_cpu_cond()\ninfrastructure API (the former derived from existing arch specific\nversions in Tile and Arm) and uses them to turn several global IPI\ninvocation to per CPU group invocations.\n\nCore kernel:\n\non_each_cpu_mask() calls a function on processors specified by cpumask,\nwhich may or may not include the local processor.\n\nYou must not call this function with disabled interrupts or from a\nhardware interrupt handler or from a bottom half handler.\n\narch/arm:\n\nNote that the generic version is a little different then the Arm one:\n\n1. It has the mask as first parameter\n2.       "message": "mm for fs: add truncate_pagecache_range()\n\nHolepunching filesystems ext4 and xfs are using truncate_inode_pages_range\nbut forgetting to unmap pages first (ocfs2 remembers).
