"message": "[PATCH] mm: use symbolic names instead of indices for zone initialisation\n\nArch-independent zone-sizing is using indices instead of symbolic names to\noffset within an array related to zones (max_zone_pfns). The unintended\nimpact is that ZONE_DMA and ZONE_NORMAL is initialised on powerpc instead\nof ZONE_DMA and ZONE_HIGHMEM when CONFIG_HIGHMEM is set. As a result, the\nthe machine fails to boot but will boot with CONFIG_HIGHMEM turned off.\n\nThe following patch properly initialises the max_zone_pfns[] array and uses\nsymbolic names instead of indices in each architecture using\narch-independent zone-sizing. Two users have successfully booted their\npowerpcs with it (one an ibook G4). It has also been boot tested on x86,\nx86_64, ppc64 and ia64. Please merge for 2.6.19-rc2.\n\nCredit to Benjamin Herrenschmidt for identifying the bug and rolling the\nfirst fix. "message": "[POWERPC] Fix secondary CPU startup on old \"powersurge\" SMP powermacs\n\nOn the old \"powersurge\" SMP powermacs, the second CPU is started up\nby sending it an IPI, which has the side effect of stopping the\ntimebase clock (so the secondary CPU\u0027s timebase can be synchronized\nwith the primary\u0027s). The routine that did this used udelay, which\nwill hang forever when the timebase is stopped, since udelay now spins\nuntil the timebase reaches a certain value.\n\nThe end result is that the kernel would hang when bringing up the\nsecond CPU. This fixes it by using a simple loop which just does a\nfixed number of iterations to generate the delay. These old systems\nwere all clocked at around 200 MHz or so, so a fixed number of\niterations is acceptable.\n\nSigned-off-by: Paul Mackerras \u003cpaulus@samba.org\u003e"

"message": "[PATCH] x86_64 irq: Scream but don\u0027t die if we receive an unexpected irq\n\nDue to code bugs or misbehaving hardware it is possible that we can\nreceive an interrupt that we have not mapped into a linux irq. Calling\nBUG when that happens is very rude, and if the problem is mild enough\nprevents anything else from getting done.\n\nSo instead of calling BUG just scream loudly about the problem and\ncontinue running. We don\u0027t have enough knowledge to know which\ninterrupt triggered this behavior so we don\u0027t acknowledge it. This will\nlikely prevent a recurrence of the problem by jamming up the works with\nan unacknowledged interrupt.\n\nIf the interrupt was something important it is quite possible that\nnothing productive will happen past this point. But it is now at least\npossible to keep working if the kernel can survive without the interrupt\nwe dropped on the floor.\n\nSolutions like irqpoll should generally make dropped irqs non-fatal.\n\nSigned-off-by: Eric W. "message": "[PATCH] x86_64 irq: Allocate a vector across all cpus for genapic_flat.\n\nThe problem we can\u0027t take advantage of lowest priority delivery mode if\nthe vectors are allocated for only one cpu at a time. Nor can we work\naround hardware that assumes lowest priority delivery mode is always\nused with several cpus.\n\nSo this patch introduces the concept of a vector_allocation_domain. A\nset of cpus that will receive an irq on the same vector. Currently the\ncode for implementing this is placed in the genapic structure so we can\nvary this depending on how we are using the io_apics.\n\nThis allows us to restore the previous behaviour of genapic_flat without\nremoving the benefits of having separate vector allocation for large\nmachines.\n\nThis should also fix the problem report where a hyperthreaded cpu was\nreceving the irq on the wrong hyperthread when in logical delivery mode\nbecause the previous behaviour is restored.\n\nThis patch properly records our allocation of the first 16 irqs to the\nfirst 16 available vectors on all cpus. This should be fine but it may\nrun into problems with multiple interrupts at the same interrupt level.\nExcept for some badly maintained comments in the code and the behaviour\nof the interrupt allocator I have no real understanding of that problem.\n\nSigned-off-by: Eric W.
